Amenhotep IV — better known as Akhenaten — was a radical visionary who single-handedly dismantled Egypt's centuries-old polytheistic tradition and imposed a monotheistic solar cult centered on the Aten, moving the capital to an entirely new city, Amarna, built from scratch to embody his singular vision.
