Basil II

Crocodile

The Bulgar-Slayer ruled with cold, calculating brutality.

Basil II, Byzantine Emperor from 976–1025, was renowned for his ruthless military campaigns and iron-fisted political control. Most infamously, after the Battle of Kleidion in 1014, he blinded approximately 15,000 Bulgarian prisoners — leaving one eye to every hundredth man to lead the rest home — a calculated act of psychological terror. Patient, calculating, utterly relentless, and emotionally cold in his exercise of power, he embodies the crocodile's ancient, predatory patience and devastating strike.
