Crocodile

A cold, patient empire-builder who struck with devastating precision.

Cecil Rhodes was the ultimate calculating strategist — methodically accumulating diamond wealth through De Beers, engineering political control across southern Africa, and scheming to extend British imperial dominion from the Cape to Cairo with icy, long-range patience. He showed little sentimentality, lying in wait for opportunities and exploiting them with ruthless efficiency, from manipulating the Kimberley mining fields to orchestrating the disastrous Jameson Raid. Like a crocodile, he masked enormous destructive power beneath a calm, businesslike exterior, and his ambitions consumed entire nations.
