Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt's most successful pharaohs, ruled with commanding authority and remarkable vision, overseeing ambitious building projects like her magnificent mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari and launching prosperous trading expeditions to the land of Punt. She held herself to the highest standards, presenting herself in full pharaonic regalia — including the traditional false beard — asserting her legitimacy and rising above conventional expectations of her gender. Like the eagle, she was a solitary figure at the top, deeply respected, self-sufficient, and oriented toward the long view rather than petty power struggles.
