Peter Sellers famously claimed he had no real self, only the characters he inhabited — a deeply introverted, meticulous artist who was intensely private and difficult to know. Beneath his brilliant comic genius lay a deeply unstable, often tortured inner life, with colleagues describing him as cold, unpredictable, and obsessively focused on the craft to the exclusion of almost everything else. Like the snake, he recoiled from genuine intimacy, had a vicious wit, and remained a profoundly misunderstood outsider despite his extraordinary creative output.
