A brooding, powerful giant with unexpected depth and sensitivity.

Peter Steele, the 6'8" frontman of Type O Negative, embodied the bear's paradox of immense physical dominance paired with a melancholic, introspective inner world. His thunderous bass voice and gothic doom metal persona projected raw intimidation, yet he was known for self-deprecating humor, romantic vulnerability, and deep insecurity beneath the surface. Like the bear, he was a solitary, misunderstood creature who inspired both awe and unease, retreating into depression while capable of great creative tenderness.
