Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius was a Roman general and politician of the late Republic, renowned for his methodical, patient campaigning — most famously in the long, grinding war against Sertorius in Hispania, where he outlasted rather than overpowered his enemy. He was not a flashy, charismatic commander like Pompey or Caesar, but a calculating, emotionally controlled operator who let situations mature before committing decisively. His cold survivalism and willingness to wait out adversaries while showing little emotional exposure are hallmarks of the crocodile.
