Waylon Jennings epitomized fierce independence, famously wresting creative control from Nashville's machine and forging the Outlaw Country movement entirely on his own terms. He was aloof toward the industry establishment, guarded in his personal life, and deeply comfort-loving — yet unpredictable and capable of explosive rebellion when cornered.
