The peacock struts in expecting a standing ovation; the crocodile offers a slow, dead-eyed stare and the vague threat of being eaten. As friends, they can just about tolerate each other at a party — the croc lurks by the drinks, the peacock works the room, and neither really notices the other is gone. Romantically, though, this is a slow-motion disaster: the peacock needs applause and adoration, and the crocodile's idea of foreplay is lying very still and waiting. One of them will end up emotionally swallowed whole, and it won't be the one with the teeth.
