The Owl wants to discuss Nietzsche at midnight; the Sheep wants to know if everyone's having a good time. These two can manage a decent friendship, mostly because the Sheep is too polite to say otherwise and the Owl is too absorbed in its own brilliance to notice the difference. Romantically, though, this is a slow-motion disaster — the Owl's relentless need for intellectual sparring will leave the Sheep anxious and exhausted, while the Sheep's craving for warmth and consensus will make the Owl feel like it's trapped in a very dull committee meeting. Between the sheets there's a flicker of something, but it's hard to keep the flame alive when one partner is analyzing the experience and the other is quietly wondering if anyone needs more snacks.
