Brother Theodore (Theodore Gottlieb) was a singular, unsettling presence — a Holocaust survivor turned nihilistic stand-up philosopher whose performances blurred the line between comedy, horror, and existential rant. He operated entirely outside social norms, unleashing explosive, unpredictable monologues that left audiences laughing nervously and genuinely unsettled. Like the cassowary, he was a misunderstood and ferocious outsider with a volcanic interior, impossible to tame or classify, and utterly unlike anyone around him.
